If you know me well enough, you know my definition of success is not exactly “textbook.” Success is an attitude, a state of mind, a habit, a voluntary decision, and a process you must go through.
With that said, here’s 13 qualities that successful people possess.
13 Qualities Of Successful People
1. Successful people have dreams.
Successful people are always driven by their dream. Art Williams of Primerica said of dreams in his amazing speech Do It:
“If you don’t have a dream, you’re dead.”
2. Successful people achieve.
All successful people are achievers. Hitting milestones and seeing a plan carried out and finished, whether it was perfect or not, is commonplace for successful people.
3. Successful people can commit to a process long-term.
Winning in business takes time. It may take up to five years before you really get your groove going. Successful people understand this and are able to commit to a process long-term.
4. Successful people have passion.
You have to have passion for what you do or at least why you’re doing it. Successful people understand that if there is no passion, they will resist the activities and habits to become successful.
5. Successful people have focus.
Ah, focus. Yes, successful people are locked on to a goal and they are like a rhino with their blinders down. You can’t stand in their way period.
6. Successful people make decisions.
Procrastination, the opposite of action, is the thieve of our time. Successful people know this and are able to make decisions relatively quickly without analyzing every little piece of detail over and over again.
7. Successful people hold themselves accountable for their actions.
It’s always easy to point the finger at someone else when something goes wrong. Quite frankly, this is too common for most people and it’s extremely pointless. Successful people understand this and hold themselves accountable for their own actions, period.
8. Successful people look for solutions to problems.
While some people look to whine and complain about problems, successful people look for a solution. They understand whining and complaining is a waste of time and there is much more value in looking for a solution to a problem.
9. Successful people engage in personal growth.
Successful people understand that your income follows your personal growth and thus they work on themselves quite often. You may want to consider a question right now: Are you working harder on your job than you are on yourself?
10. Successful people align themselves with successful people.
Birds of a feather flock together goes the old adage. And, typically, the income you make is the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Successful people understand this and they know they cannot afford to spend major time with minor people.
11. Successful people leverage the efforts of others.
Successful people understand trying to do everything yourself is hopeless and a surefire way to throw in the towel, so they leverage the efforts of others. And they are extremely attractive to individuals that can perform a given task better than themselves.
12. Successful people are optimistic.
Successful people always see the glass half full. It’s in their nature. If you can always remain optimistic, then you can commit to a process long-term on endeavors that can create you a fortune.
13. Successful people do not make excuses.
Excuses, also known as well planned lies, are the number one reason people don’t become successful. One of the biggest excuses is time.
These four words will destroy you: “I don’t have time.”
Successful people understand this and are willing to make time, even if requires sacrificing the endless hours of television most people watch.
So, how many of these qualities do you possess? Just be honest with yourself and start developing these 13 qualities and success will surely follow. Just remember, it may take a few years to get there and will require you to leave your comfort zone.
